Re: Remove of Housing Allowance

The company current have a new policy on Housing Allowance 8 years ago for staff transferred from outstation. The entitlement is for 5 years. But for my case, it was not mentioned in my letter. I have been enjoying it for 18 years. Now the company said that they are going to remove my housing allowance without any compensation.

Can company do this to me? Remove the allowance as and when they like?

Did they say why they wanted to remove the allowance?

according to the housing allowance policy, after 5 years it is deemed to be localized and the current work place will be the home base. I have been enjoying for 18 years because my letter didn't state the end date. So now HR is rectifying the problem. There are about 20 people affected on this entitlement. Most of them is between 8 to 17 years.

Can company remove the allowance? Can company take back the benefits given?

Ya, I do see your point. If the policy is a new one, I think it is not fair to apply it retrospectively. However, I am not sure whether there is any authority that can help you except that all those affected may go and consult a lawyer whether there is any breach of contract or not.
