Re: Lateness & absent matters

Dear Mr Siew

We always facing the employees'(direct & indirect labour) lateness issue, they have many kinds of reasons & excuses, if company has issue show cause, warning, stern warning, yet not improvement.
1) can we deduct their salary for lateness matter?
2) is there any law guidance for handling lateness & absent issues?

Thank you!

You may have to be stricter. You should take disciplinary action for those habitual late comers. Hold domestic inquiry under Section 14 of the Employment Act and then mete out punishment accordingly. Refer to Section 14 of the EA for guidance. If you keep giving warnings without follow up action is useless, they might think you are not serious.
