I have an employee with resignation letter dated 20 Dec 2009. However she wants to work till 8 Jan 2010 and thus did not give one month notice. How should we normally calculate the salary?
I presume you have no problem with her not giving one month's notice and that she had received her Dec salary. So, for the 8 days in Jan, the calculation should be (salary/31) x 8.
