Re: Time of payment of wages

Hi, i am having this question when i am reading the labour law book:-

"Every employer shall pay to each of his employees not later than the seventh day after the last day of any wage period the wages ... less lawful deductions... "

my question is : - what about if my contract end on 11th Feb ? the not later than the seventh day means the day starts from 11th ? or i will only get my salary at Feb end together with the rest of the employees in that particular company? the 7th means - contract end the 7th day / the 7th day of the following mth end, coz normally salary will be bank during mth end.

Thank

You are quoting section 19 of the EA, section 20 may be more appropriate:

"20. Payment on normal termination of contract.

The wages, less lawful deductions, earned by but not yet paid to an employee whose contract of service terminates in accordance with section 11(1) or of section 12 shall be paid to such employee not later than the day on which such contract of service so terminates."

But it still depends on the practice of the company. Some companies pay their employees on fixed dates.

The Labour Department is the place where the employees can seek redress. Go there personally to file a complaint.

hi,
want to inquire that for annual leave entitlement, less than 2 yrs is 8 days. For example if I joined the company in Sept 2012 and confirmed in March 2012. My leave entitlement will be from Sept or from March.
