Re: OT Calculation on Rest Day

Hi Mr Siew,

My company is using basic salary/26. If staff working for 8hrs OT on his rest day, we shall compute his OT as:

a) RM2000/26/8X1.5=RM14.40 x 8hrs=RM115.20
OR
b) RM2000/26=RM76.90
OR
c) RM2000/26/8X2=RM19.20 x 8hrs=RM153.80
OR
d) RM76.90+RM76.90=RM153.80

If staff working less than 8hrs, what is the formula?

Pls advise urgently.

First, you must understand what is OT(Over Time), which is work done after 8 hours of normal work.


Refer to the relevant section 60 of the Employment Act as follow for guidance:

"60(3) (a) In the case of an employee employed on a daily, hourly or other similar rate of pay who works on a rest day, he shall be paid for any period of work:

(i) which does not exceed half his normal hours of work, one day's wages at the ordinary rate of pay; or

(ii) which is more than half but does not exceed his normal hours of work, two days' wages at the ordinary rate of pay.

(b) In the case of an employee employed on a monthly rate of pay who works on a rest day, he shall be paid for any period of work:

(i) which does not exceed half his normal hours of work, wages equivalent to half the ordinary rate of pay for work done on that day; or

(ii) which is more than half but which does not exceed his normal hours of work, one day's wages at the ordinary rate of pay for work done on that day.
