Re: Company closing

Our company Group IR Manager informed us today that after the merger, they are closing down our company (which is a subsidiary to the Group). And they have given us a secondment letter with our current company's letter head to second us to another company within the group for 6 months. Meanwhile, they have offered 2 VSS to our 2 colleagues. I have more than 10 years service with the company and have few questions:

1. If they closing my current company, do i have right to ask for lay off or VSS? If yes, how should I go about this?

2. They said they are closing my current employer, can they still "second" us for such a short period to another company? We suspect they just second us there 6 months to clean up some mess and buying time for us to resign to save the VSS money

3. They only giving us 2 days to consider the secondment, they mentioned, take it or leave it....

What is my right in this case? Thank you

Second you for only 6 months. That don't sound good. You can try asking for VSS. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, go and seek advice from the local Labour Department with more details. Meanwhile, read up the Employment (Termination and Layoff Benefits) Regulations
