Re: Starting Day of the New Job

Hi KL Siew, I've given one month notice to my company from 12th April to 11th May 2011. My last working day will be on the 22nd April after offsetting my annual leave. Can I start to work with the new company legally on the 25th April, even though I will be paid by my previous company until 11th May for the annual leave? Appreciate for your kind advice.

If that arrangement is OK with you and your previous company, why not?

But my previous company told me that I am not allowed to work for the new company before 11th May. Is it true? I am not sure it is just their personal policy or it is by the labour law. Can you please kindly advise me?

You do what you have to do and let them take action then.

What I would like to know is whether I have against any labour law or not? Can they take any legal action against me? Your constructive reply is high appreciated.

I am not aware of such labour law stopping someone to from working for another employer. If you want a clean break from the former employer, tell them you are willing to forgo your leave pay so that you don't have to work during the leave period.
