Re: Payback the company?

My resignation notice is 3 months. I've asked to leave earlier, after 2 months. The company has handed me a letter asking me to pay them back my 3rd month salary. Their calculation is like this -

Mar salary + April salary - May salary

Therefore I don't get paid for the month of April.

Is this right? Why do I owe them money? It doesn't make sense. Shouldn't they just pay me for Mar and April? I don't understand why I owe them money for the month that I did not work.

Some more information that might help -

I have been in my current employment for 1 year and 6 months.

My 6 month probation was extended by 3 months. I was not notified of this verbally or in writing. At the end of the 3 months I received an email to redo my evaluation. I was not notified of the result of this evaluation. Can I assume that I'm still under probation and need only give 1 month notice then?

In summary, I want to find out if there is any way I can avoid paying the company 1 month's salary.
