Re: Early termination of employment

Hi there,

I'm an intern at a local company. My internship contract is suppose to end by End of February, but I have to end my job earlier by end of Jan due to personal reasons.

I've given my company 1 month notice but they are reluctant to release me and insist that I should continue my work until end of contract.

Legal-wise, am I allowed to resign from work myself before the contract ends? and what legal repercussions can I face from my company if I refuse to work?

You must read the contract about termination of contract and whether there is any penalty clause in there. Show the contract to a lawyer for legal advice.

There is no penalty or whatsoever. The contract just states the period of work, time of work, lunch period, as well as working hours, and also some non-disclosure sections.

I don't know what sort of internship is yours. Will you be given any certificate, letter of attendance and so on on successful completion of the course? Anyway, I leave it to your own judgment. I can't really advise.
