Re: Re-employment after retirement age

I've been working with this company for 15 years and due for retirement on 15 January 2011. The company also agreed to re-engaged me on yearly contract basis and will start one month after my retirement date.

The thing that puzzles me is they want me to work continuously after my retirement date in which they will pay the one month salary through voucher before entering to contract which start on 16 February 2011.

1) Why the employer want to have one month break of my service but at same time want me to work in that month?

2) Is my employer practicing the lawful way to re-employ me?

It could be that the employer tried to put a break in the service period and start everything anew. If you agree to their offer for you to work on yearly contract, try to negotiate for terms that are not worse than those before.
