Re: Labour Law vs Employment Act

I understand from my friends that there're diference between Labour Law and Employment Act. They said that Labour Law are meant for those earning less than RM1.5k per month in manufacturing sector while Employment Act covers all other employees.

Please advise.

"Labour law" is a general term for a branch of laws that habe something to do with employment while "Employment Act" refers to a specific piece of law. "Labour law" may include other Acts such as Industrial Relations Act, Trade Unions Act, Children and Young Persons Act, Workmen's Compensation Act and many more. The Labour Department enforces a large number of Acts pertaining to employment. The more familiar ones with us are the Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act. The EPF and SOCSO Acts are also labour laws.
