Re: Salary reduction

recently my company cut pay from 10% to 20% based on the level of employee. After cut pay, my monthly salary is less than the salary stated in appointment letter. Is it true that management have the right to do so?
Pls advice. Thanks!

In view of the current economic downturn, such problems do occur. Better if all of you can get together and refer the matter to the Labour Department.

Thanks for your feedback. Anyway, before go to Labour Department, I would like to know more about labour law.
Before cut pay, my company already retrenched 500 employees, and I heard there is another round retrenchment in March'09. Can management retrench employee after salary reduction? Our salary reduction effective in Jan'09, if they want to retrench more employee in March'09, the compensation should based on salary before reduction or after reduction? pls assist. Thanks!

The only piece of law that may be relevant to you is the Employment(Termination and Layoff Benefits) Regulation. You can read it at http://pesaraonline.net/terminationbenefits.htm You can find the method of calculation of the benefits there.

When they retrench workers, management will send out letters. Only when the workers got the letters then they would know how the calculation was done.

AT the moment, just try to familiarize yourself with that Regulations.
