Re: Salary Reduction

Hi,
Due to the economy downturn, my company decided to reduce the work days from 5days per week to 4days per week. There will be annual leave deduction for the shut down, and if employee has insufficient annual leave, unpaid leave should be applied.
At the same time, company instituting a pay cut to all employees with immediate effect but without reduce the working hours. May i know is it legitimate?
Thanks

To vii

I think the guideline is simply dollars and cents. The amount allotted for performance bonus is not unlimited. If every one is to get good performance bonus, the money may not be enough to go round and as such HR will have to limit the number of very good, good and so on. It is just too bad if a good performer does not get what he deserves because there is not enough money to go round. This is how I understand it and I don't say your company is doing exactly like that. They may have own guideline or thinking.

Hi Siew,
Our HR dept are requesting us to sign a letter as acceptance of the salary reduction. Can we refuse to sign the letter? What action can HR dept take if we not sign the letter?

Thanks
