Re: Options for 6 months noitced

my employment letter stated 6 months noticed required for resignation. Understand that employment letter should be given before or on the first day of joining. But i only receive the employment letter after a week of joining, and wasn't make known for the 6 months noticed. What can i do to reduce the noticed period should i resign?

I really don't know whether it is a wise thing to do to have a 6 months notice. The employer might have a wrong notion that he would be able to prevent the employee from leaving this way. You talk to the employer first. If you cannot get the period reduced then consult the Labour Department or the Industrial Relations Department.

The Employment Act does not state how long should a notice period be. It is something agreed upon by both parties. But in your case, you came to know only after joining and you don't seem to agree to it. If your salary is over RM1500, you consult the Industrial Relations Department see whether they can in any way assist you. But first discuss with your employer first.
