Can an employer change the notice period of resignation agreed in the original contract without the consent of the employee?

The employer will have to pay indemnity if he shortens the notice period. For example, you gave 2 months notice, and he said "never mind you can go after one month." He will have to pay one month salary for the other month.

what if the employer changes it to a longer period of resignation notice?

Then you leave according to what was stated in your original contract notice if you cannot accept the extension.
