Dear Mr. Siew,

Pls help to calculate my annual leave entitlement>

Company Policy:

less than 2 years = 10 days
2 to 5 years = 14 days
above 5 years = 18 days

Date joined = 11 June 2007

What is my entitlement as at 31 Dec 2009?

What is the standard practice of calculating annual leave?

You can do it this way:

11/6/07 to 10/6/08 = 10 days
11/6/08 tp 10/6/09 = 10 days
11/6/09 to 31/12/09 = 6 completed months in 3rd year = 7 days

Don't be surprised some employers are doing like this so that annual leave will be year to year basis:

11/6/07 to 31/12/07, they give 5 days
year 2008 = they give 10 days
year 2009. they give another 10 days

Dear Mr. Siew,

I was also of the same opinion that your 1st computation is correct.

If employer chooses the 2nd computation, then will staff be at the losing end? Is it violation to Employment Act?
