My friend's company's policy for resignation is to serve a 2 months notice. He has submitted his resignation on the 28th of March and his last day would be on the 26th of April (60 days). Upon pro-rating his leave, he is entitled to a 3 days Annual leave.
However upon tendering his notice, he now decides to leave the company on the 15 of May being his last day. He would like to utilize his given leave and to take unpaid leave of another 3 days, as he is going outstation to attending a close relative's wedding. Unfortunately the company only allows him to take 2 days of leave and decides to compensate by paying for the balance 1 day leave.
My friend still want's to go ahead with his initial plan as he have booked his flight ticket. Can he still insist to go on unpaid leave? His salary is over 2K. Seeking your advice if he still PLANS to go ahead.
In my opinion, when you have given notice to termination the service, there is no question of applying for unpaid leave. For example, can you give 1 month notice and then apply for 1 month's unpaid leave? If your friend wants to leave 3 days earlier, I think he will have to pay 3 days wages as indemnity for the 3 days short notice. Tell your friend to talk to the management again and don't simply go on leave that is not approved. He can consult the IR Department if necessary.
I have spoken to my employer on an early release by compensating the company. However my employer is not keen and have told me that he would discuss and get back to me.
It has been 2 wks, but he has not replied me. My superior has raised the issue with him, but he did not give any reply.
Do i have to hand in another letter stating i want to leave early and will be compensating the company?
To be on the safe side, can i request for a letter from the company, asking them to state my last day of work, my intention to compensate, my salary due and they would pay my annual leaves? (My co. does not practice issuing out this kind of letter, so can i still request?)
