Re: Mediation session at Industrial Relations Office

Can employer just send a lawyer to meet employee at the mediation session?

I as a non-unionized employee, cannot bring in a lawyer during these sessions.

The employer didn't bother to turn up at the first and second meeting, and at the third they just sent their lawyer, saying the employer was busy.

The IR officer will fix another date and ask the employer to come. Can the employer bring in his lawyer during this kind of session?

When the discussion comes up next time, you can put up your objection to the presence of the lawyer and let the IR officer decide.
