Re: Prohibit join competitor in the appointment letter

In our company's employment letter states that if a staff resign, he/she cannot work for competitor of the same industry for 1 year

Is it lawful for the company to put such a statement in the employment letter, will i get sue by the company if i resign and join the competitor ?

I don't know how important the position you are holding is. and what sort of trade secrets of the company you know. I am not competent to comment on its legality. Why not show the letter to a lawyer friend for his comments or search some legal websites for advice?
