Re: Dismissal without warning letter

Dear Mr Siew,

Greetings, would like to clarify here that - my friend works in an advertising agency and she also does part time on her own time some advertising jobs. Her boss found out and termiated her with a 24 hours notice, she has been working there 5 years. She was not paid the current month salary. So we saw a frind lawyer, he advised us to go along and sign the letter her boss prepared saying that, my friend is willing to pay her back everything.

Question : Is this legal ? Her boss claims its CBT? Is this true?
Her boss even wants my friend to pay her back everything she earned in her partime job? And treathen her that she will lodge a police report if my friend din pay her.

Pls advise.
Tony

As far as the dismissal is concerned I would advise that she makes a claim for wrongful dismissal under Section 20 of the Industrial Relations Act at the Industrial Relations Department. As for the other matter like paying her boss, CBT, I am not in the position to give any advice except that she should be careful not to sign anything that may incriminate herself.
